
Sabrina LOCATELLI has actively participated in seeking funding for this project. She received her PhD in Public Health and Epidemiology from the University of Basel/Swiss Tropical Institute. She is a permanent researcher at the Institute of Research for Development (IRD)/ University of Montpellier, France since 2011 (https://mivegec.fr). She has a strong molecular biology background and carried out successful field research projects in Cameroon, DRC, and Ivory Coast studying retroviruses, opportunistic and neglected diseases at the human-animal interface. Her research focuses on understanding the population dynamics and genetic diversity of pathogens in order to identify mechanisms facilitating the emergence and spread of animal diseases affecting human populations living in tropical regions in Africa and Asia. In Laos, she is involved in projects monitoring the progression of COVID-19, retrospectively and prospectively, in all potential actors of SARS-CoV-2 circulation, including humans, domestic animals and wildlife.
