About IRD

As a French institute for international scientific research, the IRD helps to make societies more resilient in the face of global upheaval. It is present in more than 50 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Pacific, as well as in mainland France and its overseas territories.

Its research activities provide concrete answers to priority needs: mitigating and adapting to climate change, combating poverty and inequality, preserving biodiversity, access to healthcare, and taking social dynamics into account. Research questions are developed in conjunction with local players and populations. Our teams bring together different perspectives, disciplines and knowledge through long-term partnerships to develop robust, high-impact solutions.

The IRD promotes research that benefits the greatest number of people. It shares the results of its projects and puts science at the service of action. It thus supports the transformation of societies towards fairer and more sustainable social, economic and ecological models.

About Météo France

Météo-France, a public administrative body, is the official meteorological and climatological service in France. As such, it carries out the State’s responsibilities regarding the meteorological safety of people and property, notably by monitoring the atmosphere, forecasting the evolution of meteorological phenomena, snowpack conditions, and sea surface conditions. It issues weather warnings for metropolitan and overseas French territories. The institution is also responsible for preserving climate records and developing global and regional climate projections. Météo-France carries out its activities and missions within the framework of a performance contract with the State. International cooperation is essential in meteorology and climatology, both operationally and for research. Météo-France represents France and actively participates in the activities of the four global and European organizations that structure this collaboration: the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), and the EUMETNET Economic Interest Grouping. In the South Pacific, Météo-France is represented by the New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna Interregional Directorate and the French Polynesia Interregional Directorate. The primary mission of these directorates is to contribute to the protection of people and property; a mission ensured through continuous weather monitoring, the development and dissemination of weather forecasts, and the monitoring of climate change.
